CV-2: Capability Taxonomy

The steps below walk the user through populating data in Collector for a CV-2: Capability Taxonomy class diagram. This how-to topic presumes a novice-level knowledge of Architex and the Collector module. These steps can be completed by a user with write access to the module and architecture.

A CV-2 describes the hierarchy of capabilities of an organization.

It may be helpful to sketch out the overall operation (on a whiteboard or paper) before entering data into Collector.

1. Load the desired architecture (based on the UPDM 2.1 Framework) in Collector.

2. To capture the properties of the capabilities, select the Actual Property node in the Outlook Bar. Enter the names of the properties in the Name element. (If the node is empty, click the Add button in the Ribbon Bar.)

3. Next, we need to add the capabilities. These are the high level specifications of the enterprise’s ability, and are captured in the Capability node. Select that node now.
3a. Add new capabilities to the Name element.

3b. In the Valid From element, select the date that the capability will first be available.

3c. In the Composition element, select the parent capability from the menu for each applicable capability. If the newly added parent does not appear in the menu, click the Update References or Refresh Data button in the Ribbon Bar.

3d. In the Generalization element, select the more general counterpart of the specific capability.

4. Next, we will add the actual property sets that are assigned to the capabilities in the Actual Property Set node.
4a. Enter the names of the property sets in the Name element.

4b. For each property set, select the properties that are included in the Actual Property element.

4c. For each property set, select the capabilities that the property sets are applied to in the Applies To element.

5. In the Reporter module, select the CV-2 report and generate it. (See how to create a CV-2 if you need to create or modify the CV-2 for this enterprise.) If the resulting diagram is not correct, then return to Collector and make any necessary changes.
