Import an Embedded Framework

The following steps walk an IsAdmin-type user through importing an embedded framework in Designer. Importing one of the three embedded frameworks (UPDM 2.1 Framework, Risk Framework,  Lifecycle Affordability Framework) will bring in the framework and its associated nodes, elements, and reports. For best results, an embedded framework should only be imported in a data service where that framework does not already exist. These screenshots were taken in an empty data service.

1. In either the Framework Builder pane or the Node Editor pane, click the Framework Manager button in the Ribbon Bar.

2. The Framework Manager window pops up.

3. In the Import Embedded Framework group of the window's Ribbon Bar, select the desired framework from the menu. These frameworks can be imported in any order.

4. Click the Import Embedded Framework button. The top half of the window's Content Pane displays the framework, viewpoints, and nodes available to import. Green highlighting of the name indicates the item is new. The lower half displays the number of differences from what currently exists in the data service.

5. In the Log tab, select the changes to make. You can also use the Select All or the Deselect All buttons in the Ribbon Bar. When ready, click Merge All to bring everything in, or Merge Selected Items to import specific items. A busy indicator is displayed while the import process occurs. Click the X icon (in the upper right-hand corner) to close the window.

6. When you close the window, a busy indicator is displayed to alert you that items are being loaded. Your new framework and viewpoints now appear in the Framework Builder pane, with new nodes and elements in the Node Editor pane.
