SV-2: Systems Resource Flow Description

The steps below walk the user through populating data in Collector for an SV-2: Systems Resource Flow Description component diagram. This how-to topic presumes a novice-level knowledge of Architex and the Collector module. These steps can be completed by a user with write access to the module and architecture.

An SV-2 addresses the resource flows between systems.

It may be helpful to sketch out the overall operation (on a whiteboard or paper) before entering data into Collector.

(Screenshots are from the SAR EA Example architecture, provided with most data services.)
1. Load the desired architecture (based on the UPDM 2.1 Framework) in Collector.

2. To capture the system resources, select the System Resource node in the Outlook Bar. Enter the name of the resource in the Name element. (If the node is empty, click the Add button in the Ribbon Bar.)

3. To capture the system (or resource) roles, select the Resource Role node in the Outlook Bar.
3a. Enter the name of the role in the Name element.

3b. In the Parent Role element, select the parent from the menu for each associated role. If the newly added parent does not appear in the menu, click the Update References or Refresh Data button in the Ribbon Bar.

3c. Associate the system resources to the applicable roles in the Resource element.

4. Next, we need to document the connections between resources. These are captured in the Resource Connector node. Select that node now. Add the roles that are connected in the Source Resource and Target Resource elements. Add the resource interaction items that are exchanged between resources, if desired, in the Exchange Item element.

5. In the Reporter module, select the SV-2 report and generate it. (See how to create an SV-2 if you need to create or modify the SV-2 for this enterprise.) If the resulting diagram is not correct, then return to Collector and make any necessary changes.
